The General Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, was organized by a convention of delegates of independent Grand Chapters (the jurisdictional bodies over chapters in states or provinces) on the fifteenth and sixteenth days of November 1876. The official title of the organization is: General Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

There are 46 states, 8 Canadian Provinces, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Bolivia and Sao Paulo (Brazil) that are Grand Jurisdictions joined by the General Grand Chapter.
